The Evolution of Snake
Snake is a timeless masterpiece of minimalist game design. Its origins trace back to the 1976 arcade game Blockade, developed by Gremlin Industries. However, it wasn't until the late 1990s that the game became a global phenomenon.
In 1997, Nokia engineer Taneli Armanto programmed the game for the Nokia 6110 mobile phone. It was simple, addictive, and perfectly suited for the limited hardware of the time. This single decision made Snake one of the most played video games in history, appearing on over 400 million handsets.
Fun Fact: The original Nokia version had a maximum possible score of 2008 on certain levels, a feat that required perfect timing and hundreds of hours of practice.
At BITSTART.CLUB, we’ve updated the visuals with neon aesthetics while keeping the core mechanics identical to the classic experience. It remains a perfect test of focus and spatial awareness.
